Medical Centre
Nachugunta is an island devasted by the tsunami on Boxing Day 2004. In the summer of 2005 Hazel Bech visited and provided a mercy meal for the whole island, followed by a free medical camp. This was done in partnership with Harvest India.
She learned that they had a desperate need for a full-time medical centre as the nearest doctor was 50 miles away by boat. Many women and children were dying in child-birth and others were succumbing to curable diseases.
In October 2006 she returned to the island with a team from UK. They dedicated the medical centre to the glory of God and to the blessing of the people.
On Eagles Wings has pledged to continue to support the medical centre financially and in prayer.
| Following the unexpected death of our resident doctor in 2007 the medical centre was covered by the services of a nun from a neighbouring island - a far from ideal situation. In 2008 the Roman Catholic church offerd to take the Centre over and put a medically qualified nun onto the island to live there and run the centre full time. We handed over to them in the summer of 2008. |
